A 747 is traveling from Washington, DC to Los Angeles when weather conditions force it to make an emergency landing in Salt Lake City. In parallel, a small private jet en route to Boise also prepares to land. When its pilot suffers from a heart attack and crashes into the 747, the entire flight crew is either killed or maimed.
This leaves Nancy Pryor (Karen Black) in command, a stewardess with no flight training whatsoever. To make matters worse, the craft's instrument panel is destroyed and radio communications are cut. Now a helicopter pilot portrayed by Charlton Heston is the passengers' only hope.
Airport 1975 was nominated for a Golden Globe. Like its predecessor the picture was a commercial success, earning $47 million at the box office -- nearly twelve times its $4 million budget. When adjusted for inflation its profits equal $206 million.
