Fame & Fortune Tarnished by Arrogance A Perfect Day: One More Chance to Do the Right Thing

Starting over is hard. Just ask Rob Harlan (Rob Lowe), a family man who had the perfect wife, daughter, and career. That changed however after he was unexpectedly laid off and forced to sit idly at home. He eventually landed a job digging up septic tanks, but simply couldn't bear it. When his wife, Allyson (Paget Brewster) encouraged Rob to pursue his dream of writing, the idea seemed incredibly appealing.

Rob's book was loosely based upon Allyson's final moments with her dying father, detailing the emotional ups and downs before his final breath. He shopped the book to different publicists to no avail; a return to a depressed state seemed inevitable.

Luckily, however, a book agent named Camille (Frances Conroy) took a very personal interest in Rob's novel. Eventually the former nobody left his living room in exchange for literary fame. Notoriety had a negative effect upon Rob though; soon he dumped Camille as his agent despite her nonstop dedication. He also began neglecting his family and treating others around him with contempt.

That's when Michael (Christopher Lloyd) appears, an angelic sort of fellow who warns the novelist to change his ways within 30 days, or else face death. Rob attempts to patch things up with those he hurt, but is he beyond repair? Has his arrogance grown out of control? The film's Yuletide setting gives the picture an aura very reminiscent of the holiday classic It's a Wonderful Life.

A Perfect Day is based upon the best selling novel The Christmas Box by Richard Paul Evans, a semi-autobiographical tale of the author's own ascent to fame and the perils of stardom.
