In a small rural West Virginian town called Fraser's Bottom, childhood friends Rosalee and Pete play a game of puppy love. They are accompanied by Rosalees best friend, Cathy.

Together the trio is employed at a local supermarket where Pete constantly listens to the girls chatter about their heartthrob, fictional actor Tad Hamilton.

Rosalees obsession with Hamilton drives Pete crazy, especially since he is secretly in love with her but too afraid, or perhaps unsure of how to inform her.

Pete does his best to downplay the teen idol; at a viewing of Hamiltons movie A Good Man is Hard to Find the girls burst into tears toward the films end while Pete loathes every moment, dismissing him as not a very good actor.

On the other side of the country, in Hollywood, Hamilton and his managers attempt to calm the waters after Tad is involved in a front page, tabloid scandal.

Hamilton, whose roles are generally of a nice, sweet boy is photographed speeding down a highway, drinking, and smoking while accompanied by an anonymous female.

In fear of destroying his career, Tad agrees to a publicity stunt concocted by his managers to clean up his image. His managers create a website where teenage girls can submit their names to win a date with Hamilton.

Now back to West Virginia. While at work Rosalee discovers the contest while browsing the Internet and instantly, with the encouragement of Cathy submits her name. To Rosalees delight she discovers that she won the contest.

She is whisked away in a limo where she stays in the finest hotel and enjoys an expensive dinner with her dream guy. While the win a date contest was intended only for publicity, the actor found himself strangely attracted not only to Rosalee, but to the simple life he witnessed in West Virginia.

Soon he expresses his love for Rosalee and, much to his managers disliking, buys a home in Frasers Bottom to be closer to his new love.

Yet Pete is adamant to win his childhood sweethearts affection and eventually gains the courage to profess his love to her. Does a skinny, supermarket cashier have a chance against a millionaire, handsome actor?

This film is rated PG-13 for sexual content, some drug references, and language.
