A comedy of manners...both good and bad Le Divorce: A clash of cultures

Le Divorce shows some of the cultural clashes that Americans have with French customs and their divorce laws. It is a new twist on the classic American-in-Paris theme.

Le Divorce shows some of the cultural clashes that Americans have with French customs and their divorce laws. It is a new twist on the classic American-in-Paris theme.

At a time when French and American cultures have seemingly never been more embattled, the film reveals the rich complexity of the two cultures - and their compellingly different attitudes toward morality, sex, food, fashion, and the very pursuit of life.

The film tells the story of a young American woman Isabel Walker who travels to Paris to visit her pregnant sister Roxy.

Roxy and her husband Charles-Henri appear as they are headed for "le divorce, after he has left her for his lover Magda Tellman. Later on, Isabel secretly falls in love with a French diplomat Edgar Cosset who happens to be the uncle of Roxy's soon-to-be-ex, and becomes his mistress.

Because of this, she becomes somewhat "popular" and because of being his mistress is showered with many gifts. Later, Roxy finds out that her husband has been murdered. The madness continues and it only goes downhill.
