Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Jessica Parker star in a romantic comedy with a twist in which one person is paid to date the otherbut she was never meant to fall in love with him!

McConaughey plays Tripp, a thirty-five-year old bachelor who still lives with his parents Sue (Kathy Bates) and Al (football legend Terry Bradshaw). Tripps parents were never really bothered by their sons presence, however, one night their friends discuss the joys of living alone, prompting Al and Sue to consider drastic, though veiled, measures for their sons eviction.

With a son in his late thirties of their own, Al and Sues buddies give them the name of an expert in ejecting unwanted houseguests usually adult sons. Tripps parents quickly hire Paula- an interventionist.

Paulas plan is quite simple. She believes that adult men continue living with their parents due to a lack of self-esteem. Her solution is to entice said men and then slowly build up their character. She does it by essentially seducing and manipulating her subjects.

Paula pretends to be deeply attracted to her client, extremely interested in his life and in need of his assistance during troubling times. When Paula finally convinces her men to live on their own, she soon breaks up with them. However, her clients goal has been achieved: the child will not return to their home, leaving them with a proverbial empty nest

Yet she soon discovers that Tripp is not like her previous cases.he is very social and very confident. He has no trouble meeting attractive girls and sleeping with them but he despises long-term commitments and uses his lack of independence to his sexual advantage and whenever he is ready to get rid of a girl he simply reveals that he still lives with his parents. Problem solved. Within a few days he finds another victim and moves on

As far as social pressure is concerned, Tripps best friends Demo (Bradley Cooper) and Ace (Justin Bartha) also live with their parents, and are rather proud of that fact. Given that Paulas new target fails to fit her washout profile, she loses focus and eventually finds herself falling in love with the handsome and charismatic Tripp. Likewise, Tripp instantly has feeling for Paula and does not resist reciprocating.

Things turn sour when Demo learns that Paula was hired by Al and Sue, and tell Tripp who, naturally, leaves Paula with a not so pleasant goodbye. Al, Sue, Demo, Ace and Paulas roommate, Kit (Zooey Deschanel) take matters into their own hands and devise a scheme to reunite the two, who despite their misgivings, truly do care for one another.

Failure to Launch (2006) was a considerable box office success. With a budget of $50 million it earned a respectable $128 million worldwide, not including DVD sales and rentals. The romantic comedy was nominated for a Kids Choice Award, a Peoples Choice Award and two Teen Choice awards. It is Rated PG-13 for sexual content, partial nudity and language.
