A family drama spanning two generations, revolving around a widowed wealthy man Lala Yodhraj Bhalla (Anupam Kheir) lives in his palace with his daughter Suman (Hema Malini) and his son Shashiraj (Raj Babbar), who are both of a marriageable age. When his Daughter comes to him with the news that she has fallen in love with a low class employee Ajit (Rajesh Khanna), he is heartbroken and opposes strongly to this union, but Suman defies his will and go ahead with the marriage and moves out to live with Ajit, and soon they have a boy they name Vikram “Vicky”. Moreover not long after Lala is devastated again when his son announces that he is planning to marry Rita (Moushmi Chatterjee) who also comes from a poor background. Lala is determined to stop this union from happening, so he send Shashiraj on a vacation on his private jet, and goes to Rita’s house, who’s pregnant by this time, and orders her never to contact his son again, and leaves a blank check in her hand. When suddenly Shashiraj’s plan crashes and he is killed. Broken and guilt ridden the daughter leaves her husband Ajit and moves back to her dad’s house with her son Vicky, while Rita on the other hand gives birth to a son Arjun (Anil Kapoor). 25 years later, fate brings together Vicky and Arjun, who at this point ignore their blood ties, but not for long as the truth can’t be hidden for that long.
