He Reads Between The Lies Unorthodox. Uncanny. Unavoidable.

Different to other crime procedural television shows, The Mentalist brings us back to the good old 'detective's hunch' style of crime-busting. Simon Baker, Golden Globe nominee, stars as Patrick Jane, an independent consultant with the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI), who has a remarkable track record for solving serious crimes by using his razor sharp skills of observation.

Simon Baker, Golden Globe nominee, stars as Patrick Jane, an independent consultant with the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI), who has a remarkable track record for solving serious crimes by using his razor sharp skills of observation.

Theres no such thing as real psychics, Patrick tells a credulous colleague. He should know, since he used to fool clients that he was in touch with their relatives on the other side. Now, hes directed his talents for a good cause, and by means of shifts in body language, a minor inconsistency with his suspects (and sometimes his colleagues), and Patrick solves the mystery impressing and irritating his more by-the-book colleagues.

Patricks crime unit is headed by a pretty, but more earnest and prosaic counterpart, Senior Agent Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney), who openly resists having Patrick in her unit. However, she finds herself alternating between reluctantly acknowledging Patricks usefulness and blasting him for this theatrics, narcissism, and dangerous lack of boundaries.

The character of Patrick is full of intrigue; he's sexy, funny, and smooth but at the same time is tormented by a dark secret of his own doing, and his full story is something worth while to have unraveled.
