Chris ODonnell and rapper LL Cool J portray Special Agent G. Callen and his partner Sam Hanna respectively in NCIS: Los Angeles, a spin off from its popular big brother, NCIS. Aside from a new cast the action has shifted from Washington, DC to sunny Los Angeles. Fortunately the program's new incarnation has retained the same basic elements that made its predecessor so addictive. For those unfamiliar with the show's premise, it follows a special division of the Navy dedicated to solving crimes involving military members. This means that dangerous missions and surveillance of criminal groups is an almost daily routine. Regardless of the situation, however, the detectives' top-notch training and knowledge of the latest gadgetry ensures their success in even the most difficult situations.

Agent G. Callen is an orphan whose childhood consisted of constant relocation; the 'G' in his name is not a mere initial: he simply does not know his full name due to constant shuffling between different foster homes. Sam Hanna is a tough guy from an equally tough neighborhood; underneath the surface, however, he is a compassionate fellow who aided a young Sudanese refugee at one point in his career. Hanna is also a former SEAL and an expert in Middle Eastern culture, possessing fluency in Arabic.

The agents do not act alone, however. Two brains back them up: computer geek Eric Beal (Barrett Foa) and a walking library, Nell Jones (Rene Felice Smith). Henrietta 'Hetty' Lange (Linda Hunt) runs shop at the division, a woman whose past relationships with prominent individuals make her intimidating. Oh . . . and she idolizes Lady Gaga.

Season two begins with the unit rescuing LAPD liaison Marty Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) from a botched undercover operation. Fans should expect to see much more of Deeks who becomes a regular cast member this year. The team must also tackle a professional hit squad that takes out a fellow agent in Greece. Finding their comrade's killer leads the unit to a man they presumed to be dead years ago. Next, they attempt to shut down a Mexican drug cartel responsible for the murder of two Marines.

The scenarios described above do not even pass the first three episodes; far more action and suspense will occur, much too thrilling to expose here. Be sure to tune in.
