Rossum corporation runs a number of 'dollhouses' scattered around the globe, where humans are wiped clean of their memories and personalities and kept in an idle state with their original memories and personalities stored on hard drives. These humans are then hired by the wealthy for specific 'engagements' which may be anything from a romantic overture, to a high-risk criminal enterprise, and according to the 'engagement' or mission, a new personality and set of memories and skills are programmed into the minds of these 'dolls' or 'actives'. Dollhouse follows one particular 'doll' named Echo (Eliza Dushku) situated in the L.A. dollhouse. Unlike other dolls, Echo seems to be able to retain memories and impressions even after her memory is supposedly wiped clean...
