Horatio Caine (David Caruso) is a former homicide detective assigned to lead the Crime Scene Investigation unit in Miami, Florida. He is skilled at taking what little, or any evidence may be left at a crime scene, reconstructing the event, and eventually prosecuting those responsible. Caine is often at odds with his superiors, who are frequently entangled in his rogue investigative tactics. Wherever Caine travels, trouble will soon follow. While the detective's interpersonal skills and respect for authority are practically non-existent, his knack for finding bad guys (and girls) is impeccable.

Caruso's character works alongside Megan Donner (Kim Delaney), the unit's DNA examiner and widow whose scientific approach to law enforcement often clashes with Horatio's reliance on intuition. The unit's other specialists include Calleigh Dusquene (Emily Procter), a buxom, bilingual, southern blonde whose ditzy persona overshadows her expertise in ballistics. Alexx Woods (Khandi Alexander) serves as the team's weirdo and coroner who forms personal relationships with corpses while addressing them as 'sweety' and 'honey.' Tim Speedle (Rory Cochrane) is a street-smart trace evidence and impressions expert, originally from Syracuse, New York. Lastly there is Eric Delko (Adam Rodriguez), an underwater recovery diver who also happens to be a fingerprint and drug identification expert.

In the season debut Caine battles government bureaucracy in search of a supermodel's murderer, while slowly forming a romantic relationship with coworker and homicide detective Yelina Salas (Sofia Milos). Later Delko is called to task when a man responsible for recovering a sunken treasure is shot through the chest with a spear. A promising teenage tennis player is reported missing, and her remains were discovered inside an alligator's stomach.

CSI: Miami, like its counterparts, has been an overwhelming success both in America and internationally, spawning 10 successive seasons with no immediate end in sight. The procedural crime drama earned two Emmys in addition to literally dozens of other wins and nominations. Its soundtrack features an eclectic array of music from both popular and underground artists, spanning genres such as Trip-Hop, British Pop, Downbeat, and even Latin Heavy Metal.
