AFAC Presents Mashrou’ Leila Concert for Annual Celebration of Art in the Arab World

The rock musical group Mashrou’ Leila will be performing at Music Hall in Jumeirah Zabeel Saray on November 30th as a part of the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture’s event 2014

Arab rock group Mashrou’ Leilawill be performing at Music Hall in Jumeirah Zabeel Saray on November 30th as part of the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture’s end of year event 2014,celebrating another successful year of engaging, inspiring and educating art lovers, patrons, donors and artists in the Arab region.

Commenting on the event, AFAC’s Chairman Ghassan Salame said: “We are very excited to be holding our annual event in Dubai for the second time. It is the chance to celebrate with our grantees, supporters and friends of AFAC a unique institution that has set a successful example of cultural philanthropy in the Arab region, eight years on. We must strive to keep a primacy of place for the field of arts and culture. Only in creative expression can there be hope for the region to renew itself as a resilient and tolerant society, with all its multi-faceted diversities. “

The AFAC celebrations in Dubai are sponsored by HSBC Private Bank, AFAC’s CSR Partner MBC Al-Amal and a number of individual philanthropists and corporations that are playing an important role in supporting the arts in the UAE and across the region, including Projacs, United Chemicals International, HBK Investments Advisory, Saudi Diyar Consultants, Orontes Investments, Canvas Magazine and Aramex.

The event will be held over two days, kicking off on November 29thwith the unveiling of AFAC’s public art commission of 5 visual artists working under the theme, “InVisible.”The theme calls to question the place of culture in public, its tangible and intangible nature and its impact on the collective and the individual.

The public art installations have been curated by Amanda Abi Khalil, an independent curator based in Beirut with curatorial interest in site-specific work and public spaces, supported by executive producer Hetal Pawani, the founder of thejamjar in Dubai .It is hosted by Dubai Culture& Arts Authority and the artworks will be unveiled in various locations.

After the unveiling, Abi Khalil and Pawani will be joined by the 5 artists, Monira al Qadiri from Kuwait, Sheikha Mazrou’ and Vikram Divesha from the UAE, Vartan Avakian from Lebanon and Doa Ali from Egypt in an open discussion on the role of public art and contemporary artistic expression. The art installations will be open to the public at Heritage Village from November 29, 2014

The following day, November 30th, AFAC will hold a VIP reception a tJumeirah Zabeel Saray for cultural philanthropists, supporters and friends of AFAC, who help “Make Art Possible”. The reception will conclude with Mashrou’ Leila live concert at Music Hall Dubai. Tickets for the concert are available online on the Platinum List for the general public
