Dubai, 17th January 2010: BNP Paribas recently hosted its 2nd Annual Regional Women and Leadership Conference in Bahrain during which MBC’s Group Director of Marketing ,PR and Commercial took part in a series of debates in the presence of a prominent panel, including H.E. Dr. Majeed Al Alawi, Minister of Labour of Bahrain, H.E Dr. Najar Al Baharna, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain, and H.E. Shaikha Mai Al Khalifa, Minister of Culture & Information of Bahrain.

Moderated by Nima Abou Wardeh, Founder of Mzone and Presenter of BBC ME Business Report, the panels and workshops hosted a number of distinguished speakers and influential men and women representing different sectors across the GCC, including government, non-government, private, and media sectors, discussed methods of empowering women and formulated an action plan to develop the field further.

In the course of the panel, Mazen Hayek, Group Director of PR, Marketing and Commercial at MBC, highlighted the achievements of Arab women in areas of finance, politics and media with a special mention of Forbes Top 100 Most Powerful Women in the World which included Her Majesty “Queen Rania Al Abdullah” of Jordan, ranking 75th and Forbes Top 50 women in Business which included Her Excellency “Sheikha Lubna Al Qasemi” and cited some examples of severe violations of women’s rights such as the killing of Egyptian pharmacist, “ Marwa El Sherbibi” and the prosecution of the Sudanese journalist “Lubna Ahmad Al-Hussein”.

Hayek added ”We cannot but hope that these cases will somehow help Arab Women draw some solid conclusions in their quest for self-development, greater participation in public and private lives; to finally be able to move forward towards greater justice at all levels for the best of “common good”.”

The 2nd Annual BNP Paribas Women & Leadership conference was co-organized by United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) and broadcasted by MBC Group.
